DY USA is pleased to announce Ian Brander passed the first paper of his Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (“ADIT”) Exam and Laura Welding has passed the Internal Revenue Service’s Enrolled Agent Exam.
The ADIT qualification is an advanced level credential and considered the global benchmark for international corporate taxation and cross-border taxation. It is administered and awarded by the Chartered Institute of Taxation, the premier professional body in the UK concerned solely with taxation. The ADIT qualification is now held by 1,689 tax practitioners in 86 countries and territories.
Offered twice per year, the ADIT is assessed in a modular format and is awarded when all required modules have been completed. Qualification consists of completing three papers: Principles of International Taxation; Advanced International Taxation – Primary jurisdiction; and Principles of Corporate and International Taxation – Secondary jurisdiction. Ian completed the paper one module, which includes key issues such as the principles of international tax law, residence, double taxation and treaty interpretation, transfer pricing, the work of the OECD, and international tax avoidance. Ian will continue to work on the remaining two modules to earn the ADIT qualification.
Ian is the Partner in Charge of DY USA’s Personal Tax Services Group and advises clients on a wide range of personal UK/US transatlantic taxation issues. He is a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, member of the Association of Tax Technicians, and an Enrolled Agent in the U.S.
An Enrolled Agent, which is the highest credential awarded by the United States Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), is a tax professional with authorization from the federal government to represent taxpayers before the IRS at all levels. EAs are licensed by the federal government, have demonstrated special competence in tax matters and professional ethics, and can practice before the IRS anywhere in the U.S.
Over a two-year period, Laura passed the three-part comprehensive Special Enrollment Exam covering individual and business tax returns, and representation, practices, and procedures. Individuals who obtain this elite status must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.
Laura is a Tax Associate and manages an extensive portfolio of business and individual clients in a broad scope of UK and US tax matters. She studied AAT at Telford College of Arts and Technology. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and earned her ACA qualification.
“We are very proud of both Ian and Laura on earning these prestigious accomplishments,” said Rob Whittall, DY USA Managing Partner. “Each of these credentials demonstrates their expertise in international tax issues as well as their individual drives for excellence to pursue these credentials and meet the rigorous demands needed to achieve their goals.”
